What are some good data backup options/ resources? Offsite and onsite.

What kind of data? From where? Like SQL backup?

automated is very nice. lots of OS apps available to set up painlessly. these can do both local network writing, and up to remote network location, as long as that IP is fixed.

-I use time machine,
-I burn a DVD every so often,
- I use an old ipod with super duper to make a mirror of my hard drive, which I can take with me wherever I go, for backup, and if i need a file for some reason.

I should have mentioned there are 7 or 8 computers on our Network. I like them all on the same system.

review these, then post questions on specific ones here in this thread for thoughts:
http://sourceforge.net/search/?t…might save you time, as you can filter (pun intended) those to the top which best suit your needs.

you might be best suited with a tape backup for that much data. set to do differential backups every night and a full backup over the weekends. get multiple tapes and take them home when you change them. We have a sony unit at work, not sure the model.

do you store files on a server or on the local machines? my method would only work if you have a server where the data is stored.

mrdobolina - we currently store on local machines, but switching to a server would be reasonable.

well, if you are going to be investing in a server, I would say investing in a tape backup unit would be logical. Then you would just have to be sure that users store all of their files on the server rather than their local machine. Another advantage of having a server would be that you could set up a VPN allowing your guys to access files on the server from wherever they are providing they have an internet connection.

acescense is always a good source for these kinds of issues.
