That's terrible dude, my heart goes out to your friend.
I guess all you can do for him right now is be the best friend you can be, even if it's just calling round and watching a DVD with him (comedy!), chat, make him laugh, but don't crowd him... Remind him there 'are' things worth living for in his life :)
I ain't no psychologist but I've had a LOT of s**t to deal with in my own life recently including my Grandpa dying, and at the same time my girlfriend's (23) Mum died of Cancer, all just before Xmas! So I'm just trying to pass on what helped for me (and I hope my girlfriend too!)

I just heard that he fell from the 19th story to the 10th story landing by the pool and broke all the bones in both legs. That is completely insane that he lived. I really hope I don't hear that he tried to jump to the pool and everyone there was so fucked up they thought it would be cool.

Happened past summer to one of my flatmate. He and his gf had a terrible accident with a motorbike. She was almost ok, but he had his right leg destroyed. At the end they amputated the final part of his right foot, but amputating all the leg beneath the knee was an option until almost the end.
