I just read Joshua Davis thread about re-doing his website in wordpress and have to ask, as someone who knows no damn thing about webternets, what oh what is Wordpress, what oh what is generally people's best advice for re-making my studio website?
Since setting up on my own in 05 I have just fuddled my own way through Dreamweaver via trial and error. I have got to the point now however where I need to categorise work by client or by project to bring things together in a sensible, easily navigable menu style website. I'm about to embark on a self-done html re-jig again in Dreamweaver, but my problem is, as always that I end up massively compromising along the way due to my inability, and always feel like I need to re-do it again one year later.
On the othe rhand, I have such a large and unweildy collection of files, artworks and projects to sort out and prepare for the screen that I never feel I would be able to commission a design without killing my bank account.
Anyone got any advice? How easy would it be for a total web novice to use soemthing like this Wordpress I keep hearing about?

Wordpress, etc. were essentially set up for situations just like yours, basically giving you an obtainable means of creating and maintaining a Web site, without going broke on time or money).
It plays well with most/all search engines, browsers and platforms, and can be reskinned.
Your biggest issue will be the initial setup and perhaps with the skin. Pay for a custom skin? Hire someone to create one for you?
I'd definitely look into it a bit more if I were you.

Capsize, I think I'm looking for soemthing between help and answers... I guess the short question I SHOULD have asked is just " Is wordpress the kind of thing a complete web idiot can use to create a website?" Anyway, I'll check out the link madirish supplied as it may well help me find out for myself. Thanks very mush.

Well there's lots of information here for me to pick through already. Either that, or I might just feel panicked by the mulitude of links and the limitless possibilities of the googletron. Fear of the new will keep me bashing out another load of horrible bollocks in Dreamweaver once again. Now then, how do I centre pictures then... ah.... okay... don't know...well... okay, I'll just have the work on the left then... over here... ah, looks okay... good enough... where's my shotgun?
