Wordpress, etc. were essentially set up for situations just like yours, basically giving you an obtainable means of creating and maintaining a Web site, without going broke on time or money).
It plays well with most/all search engines, browsers and platforms, and can be reskinned.
Your biggest issue will be the initial setup and perhaps with the skin. Pay for a custom skin? Hire someone to create one for you?
I'd definitely look into it a bit more if I were you.
