i hate to say it, but how do people like this maintain a job? almost every single piece is just a bunch of circles scattered around a page. or a sentence set in Helvetica. or a bunch of completely plain boxes.
its the most limited yet pretentious type of 'graphic designer' that i see, and there seems to be a lot of them.
baffles me. blows my mind. yep.

i see your point but that is mostly his personal stuff. look at the commercial section. plus, im sure he's got some more commercial stuff done to pay the bills that may or may not be similar to all this.

also MAs from the RCA tend to put you on a high pedestal (making you slightly pretentious and 'arty' but on the other hand probably a better designer/thinker also) and that seems to attract a few people..

lol @ vague.
show us some of your work then.
- you can criticize work without necessarily showing your own. who doesn't talk about atheletes or whatever without having the skills...cramdesign

I like it, although the profile pic is a bit 'littlewoods'.

I suppose you think this is particularly limited vague.

A lot of people think really boring stuff is sophisticated.
- PonyBoy0
huh? what's pretentious about it? I see nothing but deliciously crafted patterns and wonderful design that makes me jealous.
limited?!!
HUH?!
If you're gonna bash/trash this... please show us what you think is 'good' work.

I like it the same way I like Ryman's work. I would never want to own it but I like it a lot. If it were Twombly I'd have it, no question. even the bad stuff!

Nice work.

Great work and I totally disagree with you. A lot of the stuff you mentioned is under personal work and gives you no right to bash it. Plus the commercial work is delicious.
- while I dont agree with this guy, he has the right to bash anyones work. as do you :)sofakingzero

I like it a lot, but I see where you're coming from. The difference is that there are two kinds of minimalism (and various similar styles)– that is, the people who do it because it's all they're capable of and the people who do it because they love it, know it, and are very skilled in making it work in a variety of situations. I happen to think this person you linked to is very good at it :)

I like it, a lot actually.

you and I would be lucky to be that good

dope! all those pretty colors....

some of us survived the 70s when string art was all the rage.. i cant see how this takes it any further to be honest... unlike case rea's work which does....
- gramme0
He's a good typographer, which always gives me hope these days.
- moogoo0
sorry but i like his work too:P
- jfletcher0
agree, I actually *really like his work. Some of it is beautiful.
- OSFA0
hahaha, has anyone seen vague???
- tank020
its nice work but i understand vague's point.
Altho its good design its very limited design.
A good graphic designer ( i actually never like that term) has
have a bigger canon of work, more variety.
Thats actually where the challenge lies, crossing fields and bounderies to make also good projects.
I always considered olt aicher or herb lubalin true groundbeakers for this, they did the more 'artsy' stuff but also good work for big clients BUT without loosing their identity.just my 2 (euro)cents
