Won a gift card at my company party for a mall. I can use my $100 gift card at either the Apple Store or Bose Store. Any thoughts on what headphones/earphones to get?
My prefs are: small enough to carry in my pocket. Mainly being used at the gym. I do have an iPhone but I don't need iPhone specific buds. Looking for good sound quality and possibly noise canceling.
Any suggestions? Any thoughts on the V-Moda Vibe Duos?

I have the V-MODA VIBE Duo Earphones which I use with the iPhone. They sound really good but I've heard the Bose in-ear headphones and they just blow everything else out of the water. The only reason I didn't get the Bose is because they didn't have the microphone. The Bose actually felt better in my ears too. The V-MODAs are nice though because they act like ear plugs so it deadens the sounds around me.

Shure SE110's - I like them a lot, would like a little better bass, which i hear the 210's are better in that department (and wish I would have spent the extra $$). But those and the bose both get good reviews. But I like how the shures go up over the ear, they feel more secure for running/active stuff

- The sound reeeeaaaaally good. The jackass at the Apple store said the plug woudn't fit into the iPhone though.k0na_an0k
- He lied.k0na_an0k
- ....right...why the hell would he say that?? that's riiculous!menos

They look nice. I kind of hate the ones you have to insert (deeper) into your ear though because my ears are small. Are those opaque things the actual part you insert, or are they just covers?
- thems be the sheaths to insert in to your ears. quite comfy. no ribbed version thodemafleez
- the shures have lg, med, sm sizes to cover all ears.demafleez
- Thanks. Sometimes the small doesn't fit, but I guess I will check it out anyway.Jaline
- I meant the Bose ones, by the way.Jaline
- you know what they say about chicks with small ears, right?... .madirish
- I have regular-sized ears :)
I meant the inside of my ears. They are smaller.Jaline - oh, right, totally- so did i...madirish

- used these ones and don't find then special at all. the design is cool but thats about itmenos
- once you manage to get them in your ear, and for them to stay put, the sound is pretty standard...menos
- I don't like the feeling of them behind my ears, but this style looks nice.Jaline
- thats all there is to them. style. plus they do feel a bit uncomfortable after a whilemenos
- Once you start dancing around, and kicking shit all James Brown style, they fall off.AndyRoss
- And if you tape them on, it ruins the look.AndyRoss

i left a response in the note, but thought i'd reiterate it here. the bose in-ear headphones require an adapter to work with an iphone. the iphone headphone jack is slightly recessed in the case, so if the plug on the headphone is too wide, it won't fit all the way down. this happens across a number of headphones, not just the bose. that being said, i very much like the bose.

bose is garbage. it's all marketing. don't buy any of it.

Thanks for all the suggys. I think I'm heading towards V-MODA but I hear good things about the Boseseses. Any of you guys have problems with the MODA's? I've heard they make a little hissing noise when they rub against your clothes, but I do like the look of them and the iPhone features.

after reading kona's note, i did a little research into the matter. i bought them when they first came out, an the plug looks like the one in this picture:
on the bose site, the picture of the headphone jack looks a bit different:
i looks like the may have updated the plug after the iphone came out, so kona would be correct.

cinco, they do kinda make that noise because the wire casing is fabric and not the typical rubber. But I think because the headphones are jammed into your ear the noise transfers through the bone and not via the output from the speaker.
- Is it really noticable or barely there? Like will I notice it if I''m at the gym or running outside?CincodeMayo

if you hadn't of said anything I wouldn't have noticed. When you said they made the noise I listened for it.

Good deal...I'll probably pick those up and hope for the best. Thanks for the advice.

why would you spend that much on earphones, when you can get better sound from head phones, and for less money?
- Meeklo0
oh and for those wearing shures make sure you have a doctor around when those custom foams sink in your ear canal, scary shit.

Best headphones I've ever owned are Sony MDR-EX81SL in-ear phones. I think you can pick them up for about $30 now. The only problem is that the cable is a bit thin and flimsy.
