No, this is not another thread about meeting up that leads to nothing.
I don't know how you guys from San Francisco/Bay Area feel about it, but i found it was pretty difficult to actually get it to the point when we all meet up for drinks. Maybe i wasn't following threads, maybe they just died on its own.
Anyways, i think that it still would be cool to have a way to meet up on a regular basis to relieve stress after work and spend time with fellows from the industry.
That's why i went ahead and bought a domain: sfdrinks.com
My initial idea was to create some sort of a site that would allow to list events and subscribe to them so you get email notifications. Of course, an emailing list could work too, but i thought it would be cooler and more fun to create something a bit more pleasant to use and easy to subscribe to. With reminders.
Now, the question is... Is there anyone who'd like to participate in the creation and what you think of the idea in general. If it's not only me who feels this way, it could grow into a fun project on the side. Depending on how many people will participate, we can decide on the scale of this.
So, guys... looking forward to hear from you.
Thanks!

this thurs we got our co. xmas party....drinks next week? or maybe weekend day at zeitgesit?
- arseni0
instrmntl,
if all goes well, next week we can try to officially meet for sfdrinks.com (which is just as good of a reason to get wasted as anything else, of course :)Did you get the email i sent out?
- instrmntl0
i think instead of another forum thing, its easier to just bump this here thread
- madirish0
great idea.
also, is zeitgesit the only bar in SF now?
- madirish0
also, maybe making a google group and using the calendar app with it so people could subscribe to it and have reminders/portable, etc might be good. you have the URLs now, so just pull them into that site you create (the data from group via the rss it creates?) and then people can comment, etc there and it will all be automated for you.

I can't wait to move back to sf.

Madirish,
Of course, creating a mailing list was always an option. (The question though -- where's that list now?) And yes, there are tools already available to arrange meetings. We could even use evite. The thing is that the initial idea was to create something more unique and simple to use, plus have fun while doing it and have more reasons to meet up, actually.instrmntl,
if you feel so -- no problem. Let's see where it leads... As i said in the beginning of this post -- it's really easy to bump a thread; the question is whether it's good enough to actually meet up. I personally don't check qbn every day and don't want to think that i have to so i don't miss updates.Out of all the people who initially showed interest to do this shit, only one person actually went far enough to follow up with me and discuss this thing a bit. And i'm not really surprised, to be honest :)
So, are we meeting up or what? :) Uh? Where? When?
- madirish0
i hear you dude; loud and clear. all i was saying is that using those tools along with the domain you have and make it a cool mach-up NTstyle would be pretty cool. : )
you could, maybe not, but *could* end up spending a lot of time bug-checking, and not meeting up and boozing it- that's all i am saying. ; )

Madirish,
i hear you, too :) you totally have a point. It doesn't have to be a 200K website we spend a year building working full-time. But even to do something little, there has to be a commitment from at least a few people. See, since drinking and meeting together is part of the concept, the process is what's important :) If during this development or whatever we arrange a dozen of meet ups where we actually do get wasted, it's already something :) And if as a result of all this drinking we actually don't manage to do anything, well.. fuck it ) At least we had fun.- srsly, 6 months from now we have an epic bar tab and a site with the construction guy then I think we'll have met our objectivesninjasavant
