G9 is too big to carry everyday everywhere you go in my opinion. The 860is really is pocket sized - the same size as 20 cigs. The leica's image quality I think is surprisingly bad. The G9 is great but isn't a carry about camera and isn't an slr

sa whats the verdict, people? g9 or lx-2?

that sigma looks hot!
but i heard its launch was postponed

that leica IS nice but as we've mentioned, expensive. that's why i would go for the lumix lx-2. same camera - price.

I'm dying to get the G9 for me and my gf. I have a lumixFZ20 and it true about the lots of noise at about 400ISO. Kinda shitty to hear the same about the G9 and also the LCD thing. My camera is kinda bulk the size always makes me leave it behind. The G9 isnt that big its not great for stuffin in jeans so if thats the kinda thing you want to be aable to do.....go with a compact nikon.
anyway, anyone want a mint condition Lumix FZ20 :-D

I had a G3 years ago. Shot over 20K shots on it and then POOF, it was dead. It was a good camera to bridge the gap between P&S and SLR, and I do miss the swivel LCD. That was great for self portraits.
I don't know anything about the G9 though, so don't listen to me.

I just got one last week.. I love it.. i carry it everywhere.. the size does not bother me.. it fits it my coat pocket fine.. i actually like using it more than my d200.. i really like the way the menu is laid out.. you can control most of the camera without having to dig through menus.. you can make it a pretty much manual camera.. which was a really huge factor for me.. it is more like a tiny rangefinder camera.. this would be the camera to get.. though it is currently vapor wear.. http://www.sigma-dp1.com/ i pimped my G9 to look like this though.. with optical hot shoe viewfinder.

If anyone is looking for a really good deal get an s3 is. The upgrade to the s5 is was minimal, but the s3 can probably be had for a song these days. I am really satisfied with it as a p+S with a nice zoom. The movie qulity and sound are better than ok.
I have not yet reviewed the g9.

I have the G9, it's amazing.

Atkinson - that's what I was concerned about - too big to carry
That Leica is really pretty

That Leica is pretty.

That Leica is nice but way overpriced for what it delivers.

is the g9 overkill for shooting portfolio slides? just mainly table-top stuff, and don't worry I wasn't planning on having my hand in the shots either.

I just bought the new 860is / 870is. It's a great p+s camera and fits in a small pocket. The G9 is too big for p+s and too small for a dslr, same with the features. Looks cool and built like a brick shit house but not practical for what it is / wants to be.
- Too small for a dslr? Aside the fact that it's not a dslr how can that be a bad thing?rabattski

G9 or G7 a great compact with a lot of manual adjustements possible. Great resolution - possible to add lens converter and Wide angle...etc Far better than any other compact like Ixus or Coolpix (Nikon). Maybe pricy but worth it....

I've always been of the mindset that you either go all way and get a good dslr or keep it pocket-simple with a compact.
But my sister said this is what she wants (although she has no idea really what the differences are between a basic pas and the G9).
Is it too much overkill? Its so close to the Rebel in price, that I question if it is worth it.
