Hello everyone. I'm currently working for a mobile company called Thumbplay (thumbplay.com). You may or may not have heard of us but we are venturing into a new area of work. We want to get a free social networking up and running for the masses and we are looking for great examples of solid social networks. Currently, our social network area of the site is located at community.thumbplay.com and its legitimately free to sign up and use.
Being that Thumbplay is a Mobile Entertainment company, we allow our users to share content via web, email and mobile phones (you must obviously have picture messaging on your phone to transfer images).
Our competition in the field is pretty lame and they all tend to steal from one particular site or another so we want to really put in some hard thought into finding a solid direction and usability for the end user.
If possible, post your favorite social networking sites (don't even mention myspace :) hahah) that you feel are engaging and the reason you chose them.
Thank you in advance to anyone willing to post their personal perspective on this.
Below is my personal favorites list:
Virb (www.virb.com)
Facebook (www.facebook.com)
Flickr (www.flickr.com)(on a side note, no we do not spam your phone nor your email on our community so feel free to give it a test run if you wish)

Are you asking a question or just spamming the board?

No I'm actually looking for peoples real opinions on this. I've never worked directly with a social network and this is a new position for me to be in so I appreciate any opinions from anyone on here. This is a project that I have recently been given and it's quite challenging when it comes down to it.

QBN is my social network.

- I <3 QBN. I've been following this for quite some time. The only thing is it doesn't apply to everyone in the sense that I feel its more production / designers that come here. But yes. I still <3 QBNTheTofuFactory

ffffound.com's an abstracted, anonymous form of social network. I like that too.

My appreciation goes to everyone for their help on this. This is a large project for me so it's going to be a lot of review and process. Thanks again everyone.

Look at these charts for some ideas on the software behind some of these sites....It's in another thread I posted to earlier.
