Ive recenlty arrived in San Diego from Ireland and want to stay legally. Im a graphic Artist. Anyone know anything about getting a work permit for Graphic Designers, Sponsors, or any company willing to sponsor here in the US? Any horror stories, good stories? Thank you all.

From what I know, it's pretty tough getting a sponsor and work permit setup these days. It cost the company too much to be worth it in most cases.
Good luck

Seriously... There must be at least one graphic designer in the US on an Immigrant Visa reading this... that is one in 37.5 million people... (ref: wikipedia)

Yeah company sponsor is extremely difficult. What my German friend did, is deal with the company that deals with visa's back in Germany before he set foot into America. He is under strict terms to even get the possibility of getting the 5 year visa. =/ Right now our immigration system is tough.
- It seems very though indeed. Thanksa for advice :)

Has anyone out there used a company like www.h1base.com? If so are these companies reliable agents?

Again, my German friend started looking at US immigration Lawyers in America.... they know nothing like the immigration lawyers who live in other countries who specialize in the US process.
Hope this helps.
- Thank for your help... are you saying its better to look at immigration lawyers outside of the US...deemeemac

I think you should start in Canada and work your way down. Might be a little tiny bit easier to get a permit if you have been working in Canada.. Doubt it, but it might.
Without a work permit in the US, you will end up cleaning blood and puke off the floor in a clover pub to 5 bucks an hours.
I'm sure thats not what you came for.
- Thanks designerror. Sound advice. Have you worked inCanada?

I have worked in Toronto for half a year. Dual citizen.
Tried once to get a permit to work in the US but gave up. Even had a company in LA that was willing to sponsor it all. But still get the boot.
My uncle is a partner in the that same company which have branches all over the stats. But he told me the US will rather have an under educated US citizen getting that job than a qualified emigrant. He often tries to send some of his canadian staff down to run things in the US, but always end up with a big NO.
- I loved every minute in Toronto btw.********
- JUst as well I got the Canadian Residency sorted before I came Westdeemeemac

I think it might be easier to become a huge movie star and then get the permit because you are famous, than just getting the permit the regular way.

From Artist Visa to Govenor of California... Arnold did well... he thinks big... Any know any big movie studios looking for Designers
- _salisae_0
do movie studios look for Graphic Designers?
yes. they have them create the promotional materials .. the billboards, point of purchase displays, posters, websites etc etc
what level designer are you?
- deemeemac0
I assumed Movie Studios dished out contracts to Design Agencies... most high end graphic needs are shipped out to Design Agencies in my experience... Ive 10 years experience in the game... What level am I? Top level. :)

i see .. i don't think that is the case every time. i worked for turner broadcasting as an employee. i wouldn't rule out any options in your case.
are you really good with photoshop? there's a company called midnight oil that is an outsourced agency for this kind of work. if you want to send me your information i could pass it along. they have about 250 employees so they could definitely entertain the idea .. either that or point you in a good direction.
