to be very blunt i am burnt the hell out of advertising and marketing. i am sick to death of any sort of pride or craft in work taking second seat to a clueless client crippling their own work.
i want to go back to where designing a website felt like working on an adventurous and risky piece of art not recycling already unsuccessful garbage.so iam looking around for a new job and i am noticing i can't find a single smaller design shop in my area. my friend works up the road at a 3-person place and even their name has not come up.
other than design annuals (which a lot of smaller places don't even bother with) where would you look to try to find a new place to work?
ive had a pretty decent run where i am of 7 years or so.. but the lack of growth, opportunities and/or any creativity has gotten old. i've tried to fight to make things happen but its the same old drama here and it's just time to try something new.
any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!!!
(ps - im in connecticut, ouch)

I think any work for client's is going to turn out that way 90% of the time. Why don't you try to take on side projects? If you make enough at your 9-5 (and you can actually pull off days where you really work 9-5) take on some freelance work. Pick and chose what you want to work on since it's not your main gig and only take on things that look fun. Keep it light, only take on a project at a time and have some fun with it.

well i guess i just didn't explain it well enough. i am fine with a client having changes and issues to be discussed and dealt/compromised with. thats the nature of the business and it will always be that way.
my issues is more specifically with the company i work for. our AEs dont fight for any of our work, every single job is a screaming rush and there is no time to even think or discuss what needs to be done. management self-censors stuff to death because they just do not understand anything other than print. there really is a long story here and i just need out and to find a place willing to take a few chances instead of just doing the same boring work for hospitals and insurance companies.
