I'm translating some stuff into English and although I know the rules (on - above; in - inside) this example still escapes me:
On a perfect day
or
In a perfect day
Which is correct, please? Thanks. Love. Beijos.

there's LOTS of meanings for 'on':

also, thx ribit. I have a mnemonic for this prepos: "ON" is material and stands for something on the SURFACE of, and "IN" stands for something INSIDE the object. I just wasn't sure how it works when it relates to abstract things such as "days" but ON a second thought I think you cannot be outside a day. so, yeah, duhs to me thk you!

Yeah on closer examination it makes very little sense...like many things about language:)
Also, for day it is ON, but if you were talking about month or year it would be IN.

btw, ribit, what do you think about my Chamisso translation in the "Quote Someone" thread. Is it anyway near ok?
I'm really keen on making translations these days. I'm thinking about learning German - since it is a language not many people no in this small corner of the world.

re the Chamisso thing... I guess you could say sensible in place of wise... but it's hard to translate when you don't really get what he's saying overall (which I don't).
plus my German isn't really that good.. in spite of 10 years there..
