Shorts are perfectly acceptable in the office, but only if they're coupled with a smoking vest and penny loafers al la Judge Smails from Caddyshack...

I guess I am looking at this from the wrong angle. In my not so humble opinion, I would take one look at someone who showed up to work in shorts, or a meeting in shorts and not only think but say, "Do you have either no respect for me, or your job - in either case we are not doing business together, or you're fired if you work for me."
Then again, I'm a dreaded "suit" who wears suits, and maybe deep down I wish I could just wear shorts and the like myself.
Actually that's not the case at all, even if I had a choice (which I do) I would still dress the way I do as personally, as vain as it sounds, I look good dressed up, haha. Also, if I ever want to be taken seriously, rocking shorts and flip flops isn't the way to go. Even when my company has "jeans day" or whatever, or jeans every Friday in the Summer, I never wear them.
Dress for the job you want, not the job you have, I guess.
But more power to you, in whatever you wear. Just think long term in what you wear would be my two cents. Just because it may make you feel good, it still may give off the wrong impression.

i would cock-punch the bitch that said that to me in person. those things, along with about 1 or two other items in the world, ever, make me want tobreak something.on that note, i choose gracefully to disagree (how else would two proper gentlemen do this?) w/ you pittsburgh- i rock shorts, i rock flips, i rock what i, as me, *know* is cool for the experience.
no other way to go about it.
i respect those who don the garment that they prefer- would never say otherwise. honest. i do though think there is issue to be had with them that says "i correct, you wrong." srsly.
in closing; rock what you got, and own it.
in second closing; the largest deal i have ever brokered was in short, sans flips in a conference room, with multiple CEOs who dun have offices round the way from those good folks at MS you lauded for futures.

Its all dark trousers and business shirts here. We have tie thursday then casual friday. Casual apparently means golf or yachting attire...
