out on my ass

I just got let go from a job I only had for 4 months. The AD said the owner did not think my (design) style was in sync with the company's.
I was thinking the same thing actually, and being quite unhappy there was trying to figure out how to exit smoothly. I'm just pissed that I got beat to the punch. Hehe.
I'm also a bit miffed, because there were no warning signs at all, and when they hired me they knew my style was a bit different than what they were used to. In fact that is why the AD hired me...to "shake things up" at this 25 year old invitation company...
wish me luck.

That doesn't seem right. There must be other reasons. They could have spoke to you about the style they wanted to convey. I wonder about the legality of letting someone go for something abruptly without telling them prior that there is an issue. I guess it's ok if you were ready to go anyway.

Good luck man. If there is anyone who knows the feeling of being out on their ass you're talking to him. The guy who was laid off twice in one year for 2 very different corporate b.s. reasons.
The advice I can give you? Everything has purpose and it's all for the best. Obviously deep down you weren't happy there, which in time would have made things hell for you. Better now then a month from now when no one is hiring because of the holidays.
Good luck finding your new gig. Unfortunately I don't have any contacts up in your neck of the woods to give you to help out.

I once got bounced from a place after 2 weeks. the owner expected me to run projects as well as build them. when he fired me he said he'd be happy to take any business that I could dig up. He was a games programmer in a previous life and was desperate to get back into games. last time I saw him he was really nervous around me because he knew that I could set him up in the future. but guess what? he's on my shit list.

Thanks Kona, I figure I will have a hard time finding work until after the new year, but I'm certainly gonna try.
And Yeah it does seem weird...there were seriously no personality conflicts with anyone there, and I was on time and never called out...

Hey lloyd, I don't understand the situation... He fired you and said he would like you to throw some work his way?

not sure what the market situation is where you are, but here in LA, if you want to work you can easily find it.
TONS of money moving online, and just think if the writers guild stays out on strike for any length of time, all those advertisers on network will move more budget online.
Shit is prime right now, I bet you could hook up work in 24 hrs if you hussle.

Your work is great. I love the use of minimal color pallets and the hand-made illustrated style. I wish you did Flash, I'd try to get you in at the place I work.

dude, sucks bad- but there is TONS of work right now. you are in Jersey? there are probably 50 jobs alone i could think of.

Sounds like crappy management.
See, this is what happens when AD people are in charge of things...

i enjoyed your use of curly brackets.

hey Madrish, who's hiring in Jersey right now? I've got a few places I'm gonna start, but I'd appreciate a few more....

man I can smell the stench from here in LA. That blows!! Anyone who says that your design isn;t up to par with the company is full of crap. I'm pissed for you, cause isn't the idea of being in this industry to be innovatative and to reinvent ourselves? Dude I can tell you that it's not your designs and it has to be something else. Word!

well here is the place http://encorestudios.com/home.sh…
It was my design that was my undoing, because it was too "edgy" for them. The only reason I am upset is because the art director told me when I was hired that they were going to reinvent themselves and be more trendy.
What she didn't tell me is that SHE was trying to do this, but the owner was just fine with things the way they were...

wow smells even stronger. This is the era of communication. Should they've all spoke before they hired someone thinking what this new person was going to be doing? Sounds like they're more assed out than you are cause they have a failure to communicate. I don't think you have an issue finding another gig as long as this is where your heart's at.

That seems like more of a conflict between your AD and the owner than anything else.
They could have made a spin-off style, like the "edgy-collection" or something and take advantage of your talent, it would probably have been a sales hit.
Well, the good news is that you can probably use your AD as a good reference, she will want to redeem herself for sure.Soulfly

your work is great.
the lesson to be learned here is the lesson of the polished turd...as in, you can't.
I'm curious, given your work, why you would ever settle for this place? It's so contrary to what you do.
