I have this client from ollllld who owes me over $4k - of which I doubt I'll ever see.
It's actually been a couple of years now since the projects were complete... so by now I could've written it off as a bad debt...
... it's not really even money I want now... I want PEACE!!
... here's the thing - about a year and a half ago I emailed them a nasty-toned letter stating that other of their freelance designers had been contacting ME to see if I got paid... THESE GUYS NEVER PAY!!!... I proceeded to then finish the letter with a bit of a personal note to them on their pathetic ethics and how damaging missing a payday like that can be to freelance designer (of which they had seemingly used up many)...
... apparently that meant I wanted to be added to their fucking EMAIL NEWSLETTER LIST?!!!
So yeah - Once a week for the last year - I get the companies Newsletter emailed to me...
... it's like they're laughing at me by adding me to their newsletter list...
... what happens if I ask to be removed from their newsletter list? I'll probably start getting the print mag @ my door w/an enclosed bill...
:(

Take the persons email address that you've been dealing with and sign em up to as many porn sites, ezines and general rubbish that you can.
Add to that the old flaming bag of dog poop on their doorstep and you should be sorted.
The main thing to do is deal with this in a mature constructive way!
you could also take polaroids of your ass and mail to to them each week. Think of it as your own personal newsletter for these shitehawks!

I need my own Newsletter!!!!
GENIUS!

You could email their own newsletter back to them with childish graphics replacing the originals like 'I am a cockhat', or 'you smell of wee' etc etc.
Do it man! think of it as a portfolio piece...

Can't you take them to small claims court? I know I had to intimidate a client with cops to get 1500 out of the 1800 that cheap ass owed me.

I showed up unexpected to a guy who owed me over two grand. Threatened him with court and the fact I was there on my Solicitors advice to collect my money. I was paid within a week.

if they are local, I say go pay them a visit. Should they refuse then to pay.
A fun thing to do is this.
put a lien on thier owners home property. By doing this you can then be paid but it takes time. By doing this, when the "victim" decides to sell his house,, and in this market right now it may be sooner then later. He will be forced to pay you in order to sell his home to anyone. even a bank. It will be a big surprise as he most likely won't know about it until closing. Charge a late payment fee as well. So a 1800 Bill now becomes whatever you late fees are on top of the original cost.
Grnated you may have to wait a few years until he sells his home, but one day he will.Payback is a bitch over time !
