There's this little 5"x5" inch magazine around Chicago called Image, I picked up one up somewhere last week and was amazed at how awful some of the graphics were:
That's the Goo Goo Dolls, and yes, it is that pixelated in the book, while other images are perfect for print.
I've noticed this in other publications and wonder why:
1) it's that shitty
and
2) someone approved it for printAnyone else seen print graphics that suffer from the use of horrible low-res jpgs blown up like this?

that usually happens when you have placed images, and the large res version is missing so it uses the screen res preview embedded in the doc

... or the designer is just crap and they use poor images

//maybe it was a stylistic thing...

def not stylistic - there's a page advertising a party and you can't read any of the fine print or details because it's so pixelated.

This usually happens when the designer is working on something they hate. eg. the goo goo dolls.

(Oct 29 07, 16:14)every day of my life - lots of people don't know how to handle images properly. which is sad cause it ruins other wise good work.

pixelated print is just the way print designers are dealing with losing market share to web publications. You know, when in Rome...*
