I have some graphics that were created in Illustrator, most are just one color, some of them have 3 colors with each color being in its own layer. What format should I save these files so they open in Corel Draw with the layers intact?
thanks in advance

i don't think i've ever imported an illustrator file into corel and maintained layers, then again i've never cared to.
it loses specific gradient fills and renders them incorrectly after import as well
other special effects will be lost as well such as outline gradient fills etc.

All the images are solid color fills. My concern is keeping the color layers separate. I just check with my buddy next door who has Corel and the layers get flattened. That sucks!!

Save the file in Illustrator 8 format then open in CorelDraw, that should do it.

...you could also opt to not use Corel as it's poopy. :D
*pony is a former employee forced to work in Corel for years

do this; export to Microsoft Paint, open in Printshop Pro, copy and paste into Corel.. should work.

(Oct 24 07, 16:33)Illustrator is the industry standard for a reason.
Could you save as a legacy EPS?
- version30
because they bullied their way into it...
look at the apple reputation thread, industry leaders are rarely the best product, just the best marketing

that's crazy-talk, v6!!!!
corel has a load of great features...i agree... they had extrusion tools... more advanced node editing, a kick-ass (and still better than anything Adobe has) Tracing program etc etc...
... prob is their interface sucks... the older versions (9 and under) handled typography like crap... and the node editing was somewhat shitty then (illy killed corel for creating quick vectors accurately)...
... thus illy took control.
i dunno... that's my opinion... i've been working w/both adobe and corel since '94...
... corel just didn't keep up with on-screen usability etc...

eps will work. plus how hard would it be to fix? or just output the layers as separate eps files and compile them in corel

dude i love corel, i was a beta tester for versions 7 & 8 at the design house i was working for. i blaze with it, i guess it's just i've never given adobe the fair time
corel comes with it's own font manager, the other productivity tools are nice too, the barcode wizard and corel trace has been better than streamline and now live trace since v7 imo
corel as a productivity suite is just nice and the publishing options that sort fonts, prepare objects, and auto generate the necessary notes and files for printing.
at the end of my day, corel is the hands down winner

you keep playing with yourself, i'll keep using corel to earn a living.
funny how people knock software but compliment results
who cares what tools a man uses if the job is complete?
"i can't eat this steak, it was cooked on a weber grill"
"i can't appreciate this statue, it was carved with stanley chisels"
"i don't like that paint job, it was waxed with mothers"
have fun abusing yourself

I have to use both on a daily basis, although Photoshop's shape layers are edging Illy right out of the picture recently.
I must admit though, anyone who asks me about getting a drawing/page layout/image editing program suite I have to suggest Corel because it does everything, is cheaper than CS3, and is easier for the 'average' user.
Plus its Canadian, have you ever met a canuck who wasn't nice?

hey... v6... relax... jeepers!!
i use illy only because i primarily build flash these days...
... FOR YEARS... I used corel 9's font manager which is AMAZING I agree... switches fonts on and off w/out an issue... manages them and gives great previews etc... no arguing there...
... there's just a load of stuff that Adobe has jammed together these days that work wonderfully together.
I also use after effects alongside of photoshop when building complicated animation/fx for Flash...
... Corel attempted to build an .swf authoring tool a number of years back... it just didn't catch.
The simplicity of the Adobe suite is the standard, whether you like it or not, man...
... you have valid points about Corel... but it'll take a miracle to a catch on as they didn't keep up w/Adobe...
... now there just isn't a following outside of Mom & Pop sign shops / small prints shops / clip art houses / silkscreen joints...
... you will not find it being used in the majority of high-end studios nearly as much as Adobe...

i spent 30 minutes today trying to get a simple vector illustration with some type converted to curves to export as an .ai or as a .eps and the type curves kept crapping out when i opened in illustrator. i ended up having to export as a high res .tif and trace it.
thanks canada.
