(Oct 24 07, 06:09)europe = free
us = $1.000.000 with healthcare plan
- Rand0
this is HUGE
- Jaline0
I hope this is eventually free in Canada. Although....no one knows the long-term effects. Interesting.

I don't think it means no more condoms. It means they can help people with hiv/aids have a better standard of life. It's not a cure by any means.
- Jaline0
Yeah, patients have to continually take the drug (or whatever it is) and their immune system will eventually build itself back up to the level of people without HIV. Amazing though.

I was more joking, in light of a scientific breakthrough that will hopefully change the world.
Nice to see some scientists and overall geniuses are working on cures for diseases still, instead of how to fit more food onto a stick.

(Oct 24 07, 06:12)It specifically says that the patient would be considered to not have the virus (read AIDS free) when the immune system gets to a normalized level.

That is really great.
I feel happy.
Good one science geeks!
- grunttt0
that's great news.

i know this is awesome.
i can see the heads of all the pharmaceutical comapanies that make drugs to treat the desease pulling thier hairs and not caring about the infected people, pityfull humans

haven't we seen many "breakthroughs" in cancer and aids before? none of them reached the market, or passed the tests for real life application.
also this article is already 3 days old and i have seen no mention of it in mainstream news.
i remain sceptical until i see real life results.
i hope this is finally for real though.
- Jaline0
Well, they can't just put it out there right away.
- Jaline0
But you have a good point. And I hope this is for real too.
- wunderbra0
yes, jaline, but between discovery and real world adaptation lies a whole proces of testing and analysing side-effects etc. etc., only few really make it.
- Jaline0
I wonder how long-term effects studies work. Lots of people have issues with laser-eye surgery not working out, but they don't notice any issues until years after they get it done.
- BaskerviIle0
Findings from the study are published in the medical journal The Lancet - Vol. 370, Issue 9585, 4 August 2007, Pages 407-413
