(Oct 16 07, 23:38)technology associate? what exactly does that mean... seems a bit vague
- studderine0
well it depends as the title is means something different in other companies. but essentially, its a management like training program where you basically write reports, research new technologies for the company, suggest new technologies, and general business like stuff. fun, eh?

whatever floats ur boat though

hmm.. that is what i'm afraid of, i could see possibly going back to school for an MFA later on down the road. if one has at least 3.0 is that good enough for most MFA grad programs or no?

(Oct 16 07, 21:03)Yes, whatever is equivalent to a "B". I'm applying to do a Master's.

is this a serious question?
GPA concerns in this field?
seriously?????

I put 'Graduated with High Honors' on my resume, because, well, I did. I'm a smart guy.
I don't think I've ever heard of anyone dinged (or dinged anyone myself) for not listing a GPA as long as you seem like a reasonably intelligent person (i.e. you can probably write a reasonably error-free email to a client in a pinch, or can speak in complete sentences if you're asked a question.
If you can manage those 2, you're fine.

It's a big surprise that madirish's degree in Food Science didn't help him out...

GPA = worthless
unless its a 4.0, and even then not so much.

everybody knows designers are stupid
- madirish0
haha.
i did not say that to be terse, but i honestly do not even see the complete value of school in the 'graphic design' industry, to be honest. let alone, one's gpa.
now, i am 100% for going to school as long as it is best for the person, but outside learning some really basic principals and having a mentor (and believe me i do NOT mean one in school by this definitively), IMO this industry and design sensability is completely experiential. not a hair on my body would say otherwise.
and the cooking thing is self-taught, witnessed-based there ottawa..... ;)

What madirish is saying is...if you're naturally smart, don't worry about going to school. Happy happy fun times lie ahead!
But really, he's right. I don't think people need as much schooling as they need experience and talent in the design industry.
However, you do not just learn academics in school. There are a lot of skills you can learn while you're there that will help you in your career later on. Anyway, you're almost done school so you have that under your belt.

(Oct 17 07, 06:35)beer pong, avoiding campus cops, denying parking tickets and convincing the prof you actually paid the lab fees early all come to mind....
- Jaline0
Exactly.

Rand
(Oct 17 07, 06:25)and most intelligent people know there is a difference between correlation of one's GPA and intelligence, the two are not necessarily linked at all. not all intelligent people have or had a high GPA. and some stupid people have obtained a high GPA through hard work.

(Oct 17 07, 07:30)Working your ass off for a high GPA is an accomplishment. I wouldn't belittle it by calling someone stupid because they worked for it.

bcline,
i know the job i described doesnt sound as cool as being a designer, but i did not go to school for design. eventually, i want to go back to school for design (maybe portfolio center, etc.). as for now, i have to do the suit and tie thing.
