(Oct 15 07, 09:55)it's got a nice melody to it when you put it in that order. except when i was sitting in the dentist chair it sounds more like: 5 painful drills, 4 broken teeth, 3 murderous screams, 2 people holding me down, and 1 pop-suck snap of the tooth being ripped from my jaw!

Health service should not be paid for by the state in the first place imo. All technology advances and gets cheaper over decades, only medical equipment/medicine/services get more and more expensive.
Why is that? Because the state as a major player spends inconsiderably and carelessly compared to private entities, there's no actual competition and prices soar ridiculously. It's taxpayer's money which means nobody's money and politicians are in pharma companies' pockets, spending big (for our 'good' of course).
Hence today's prices.

rafalski, without wanting to start a political argument, I think that there are some things that you shouldn't put a price on, and health is one of them. Since the state started spending nobodys money, health is much better for the commun citizen.
In the end of the day some things should be taken for granted, and health is one of them.
In my opinion the problem is that the state should fund the research, as it already does, and avoid that the pharma companies keep the profits...
but that is just a pont of view.
It is degrading that in the XXI century an human being has no heath service to ease its pain.
But at the same time it is funny, because it doesn't happen to us, but it happens to people in one of the wealthiest countries in the world... that gives us a picture where the money is going...

So, in order for the society not to put price on health, the state winds prices ridoculously high by taking part in medical market :)
One time we pay for it in tax, then have to pay privately because state doctor sucks. That's just perfect.
I naively believe for the money we pay in taxes for likes of NHS in western countries, every working person would afford premium insurance - if the state wasn't a player. But that's just me.
Everyone will be paid for in a democracy, because everyone votes. That's why politicians will always be so generous (with our money) and people will swallow it naively.
Upss... I got political.. sorry, just venting.
