Impressive, $2000 to win each customer and then find out they couldn't pay their bills.

"...after burning through $360 million in capital. A lot of that money was spent on things like MTV ads to attract 175,000 young, urban customers. The problem was that nearly half of them turned out to be unable to pay their bills."

... lolz... morons... serves them right.
The price on cellular service is rather ridiculous...
... marketing 'high-priced' things to 'urban youths'?...
... I know i'm Monday-Morning QB'ing here... but it's not rocket-science that current 'youth' is more than likely going to back out of their contracts/not pay their bills... especially given the prices tacked on for Text Messaging, Photo-mailing, PDA options etc...
... it's a fucking racket I tellz ya!!... this cell-phone business... and these 'companies' charge a shitload of money for a simple communications service...
:D
... again... serve's 'em right for relying on the 'youth' market.
