have you watched Michael Mullers QBN session. I'm not sure if they show his beginning, but he was nervous as a mo'fo. but he came through it awesome, he settled down after a few minutes.
Just gotta focus on the task and don't worry about anything negative. Seriously, what's the worst thing that happens? You're not going to die or nothing, you're just talking. Even if you fuck up, you can just laugh about it later, then add it to your life experience.

why not try it? just make sure they don't have a high dependancy. Sometimes even if you don't take them, just knowing that you have something to fall back to can provide a lot of relief...

(Oct 5 07, 11:28)Thanks, that's exactly what I was thinking and probably what I'm gonna do. I wouldn't be surprised if the security of *knowing* that I could fall back on them if I needed them, would be soothing enough that I don't even need them.
In other news, sorry if this thread don't make any sense, it's 9.30 pm on a friday night after an 80 hour work week ;)

TheBlueOne is totally right. I've had (and still do) some anxiety problems, panic attacks etc just like him even tough i was never afraid of flying but since i started these things i start to freak out sometimes just thinking about it! now its more claustrophobia more than anything (subway, elevators...)...its very demotivating and can put you way down... But if you managed to face it (something i still not 100% through) you'll get over it sure enough..

I think you found the answer:
"...I've done a lot of stuff on stage and I'm not particulary bothered when I've had a few drinks..."Have a glass of scotch (or two) before going on. Seriously, don;t get lit up, but have enough to relax yourself a bit.
Or, instead of beta blockers, maybe give blueblockers a try

I mean, for me, one instructive thing that helped me - albeit indirectly - was a really good friend and martial arts teacher. I'm pretty clumsy and would beat myself up on trying to learn a technique..and it would just get worse and worse..and one day my buddy says to me "I see what you are doing. Stop it." And I'm like "Yeah I know this kick sucks and.." and he cut me off and said (and I paraphrase) "No, your technique is what it is..that's physical. That just takes practice and you will get better. No what I want you to stop is that little internal emotional dialogue you are having right now telling yourself how much you suck and how uncoordinated you are. Just stop it. Seperate your action form your emotion at this time. Just do. Just practiec this movement. Put no emotional content in it, because it's messing you up. Later, when you actually have a mechanical base for this you CAN put emotion into it, and the right kind of emotion. Just relax and do it. No emotion, positive or negative."
I did and it changed how I trained 1000%. It also really effected how I looked at doing alot of things in my life. Maybe that story will help...

“I read a thing that actually says that speaking in front of a crowd is considered the number one fear of the average person. I found that amazing - number two was death! That means to the average person if you have to be at a funeral, you would rather be in the casket than doing the eulogy.”
- Jerome Seinfeld.
I guess that is my only advice for you jawks. Well, not *my* advice, but we have the same first name.
Unfortunately the last name apparently is where all the funny comes from.

Basically what I am telling you, is that you are average jawks.
Do you want to be average?
Average people don’t like speaking in front of people.
You’re not average.
Just fucking man up and do it you magnificent bastard!

To be honest, Blue, I hate that man, and I hate General Patton.
That is not my style, I was actually in the midst of writing a post that was like, "Man I'd be a great motivational speaker ... maybe I should become a high school gym teacher or football coach with the kind of advice I give."
hahah.
I really don't have much advice on this subject, as I crave attention and have since well ... before I can remember.
The Seinfeld line when I heard it really struck a chord, so I bring that up whenever people do talk about the matter.
Jawks you are super-special and not in the short bus kind of way. I heart yew.

I took beta blockers for a few years for two reasons. One, I have a tremor in my hand that makes me look like an alcoholic, it's more obvious when I'm under pressure. Beta blockers helped. Two, I had atrial fibrillation once and took it for that. Never take sotolol, they messed my head up a bit. However I think Propranalol is wht you're looking at. They are used as a 'smart' drug. They suppress adrenaline like crazy and are very good and pretending to be a confidence booster. If you take them all the time though you tern into an apathetic energy-less waster! I'd ask your doc though because if you have a heart problem or such that you don't know about you might end up regretting taking them!

i know of ppl to use a herbal solution called "Kalms" for anxiety etc and they swear by them
