anyone?

rich black for the darker and plain black for the lighter. it should be visible enough to be noticed when looked at closer.
or you could add a matt laminate for the lighter black or spot uv for the darker. whichever is easier or cheaper for your supplier.
i hope its just in the png you posted, but theres some white edges on your reds.

no varnish

I had the same problem as you last month, I went for the blend option in Indesign, which produced a good affect. Or go with the Rich Black, Standard Black.

thanks, quagmire. you think its enough, rich black vs plain black? and spot uv, laminate etc is not possible with this.

ok, will try. cheers, waynepixel

rich black and plain black should be enough. it'll be a subtle effect. well, it depends on your supplier how good their printing is. shitty printers will show bigger differences in the blacks.
you wont be able to see much on your screen tho when working on it.

ok, thanks!

elms, baby, one wee thing - have you tried masking out the text where the dark portion of Beethoven's body is - replacing it with the overall rich black (or whichever you decide to use)?
It's one of my bug-bears.
Love the violent stark red/black contrast, that strikes me as very appropriate - nice job (as always!)

good idea, Nairn
cheers!

hmm, it's quite stressful. i have asked and no-one has ever made such print job where plain black and rich black are used together.
