i need to replace myold g4 tower with a shiny new mac. and i am thinking of a nice 15"/2.4 gh/z to take it with me home and on the road.
question ist, is the speed and max. ram enough for photoshop composings (2-3 GB Files) a little video now and then?
at work, i will put it on my 20" screen?any experiences?

it is going to be a lot faster than your old g4 i suspect.

try to get a 7200 rpm hard drive, it is worth it.
obviously cheaper to get it separately, but I don't think the warranty lets you swap drives in a procheck apple refurb store and more importantly.. WAIT!
..Apple releases Leopard soon, new machines will accompany that event for sure

just bought a 15 MBP. having being windows for 15 year moving to mac has been very nice and very fast so far. I'm running cs3 and its all going well so far

I always say that if you need a machine right now, get it now. Leopard will be released soon, yes, so if you're not in a rush, just wait a couple of months.
However, it's not a big deal. New systems are always coming out and people will not continually have the "latest and greatest".
A Macbook Pro should be fine for your needs, especially if you max the RAM to 4GB.

i purchased my powerbook right before the inter macs were coming out. apple dropped the prices so much that i didnt care if i didnt have the latest tech or whatever.
i'm a student. i saved a shitload of cash. and with that extra cash i boosted the ram and etc.

the case is old, calls for a redesign and probably will be updated

Im getting the same...
Deffinately think it will be worth waiting for the next 2-3 weeks to see what rumors are flying about with the release of Leopard.
Anybody fancy buying a 2ghz dual G5 with 3.5gb of ram while I'm here? Its loaded with CS3, ilife and iwork 08 etc...
May as well while I'm here ehh

I have a MBP C2D maxed out on ram, etc., along with a 20" Cinema and it's more than enough for CS3 and FCP. You shouldn't have any problems as far as performance is concerned.
