Hi all,
I am in a discussion which i need your opion. It's about making photos of people who run. Now if a photographer take a picture of me, do i have the right to post it on my blog?? Or should i ask for permission of the photograph. Hence, he didn't ask mine permission to take the photo in the first place.
Any idea

as far as I know the photographer always owns rights to the photography.
Now if its a pubic function like a marathon or public sports event...I dont know the logistics...but I am pretty sure the photographer owns the photo since he produced it.

The photographer owns the photograph, but cant do anything with it, without a release form from yourself.
I think.

the photog owns the photo. if it is an organized race the race has the right to use the image for promotion. It would be in the release the participant signs when the enter the race - the race organizers should be the only ones to fear. If it is a shot of some random person running, dont ask permission ask for forgiveness.

The photo belongs to the photographer but it can only be used for editorial purposes unless you signed a model release.
Unless, you're face is not entirely recognizable then he can use it for whatever he wants.

Be careful, think of events like an NFL game or NBA game, these photographers have certain rules and regulations on how their images are used with or without the consent of the leagues. Other sports have similar rules and regualtions. It is always best to speak with an event coordinator about these issues. But for the most part, you can should be able to use your photos for self promotion ie. your portfolio and website however be careful when selling images and take into consideration who is in the phtoographs and what type of an event the photogra[h was taken from.

If you are easily recognizable the photo cannot be used without specific written consent. Some events cover the photo release in waivers when you enter an event. Read the fineprint.
