Really basic site I know, but i'd appreciate any feedback on the work?

Thanks a lot

good site and great work - well done.
one way to improve it in my opinion would be to just have a next and previous buttons instead of the numbers... it'll be a pain when you go over 24 folio pieces.

Thanks a lot for that. Good call - i think i'll add the buttons - and perhaps change the colour of each link once it's been visited?
- forcetwelve0
yeah good one. i'd lose the numbers altogether.
that 'bigger picture' piece is really nice.
- neue75_bold0
nice...
not much to feedback regarding the work itself.. what's done is done.. a bit more diversity in projects would be nice, but you've proven with this selection alone you're a good clean designer who can do the trendy stuff when called for..

Really nice work. The layout helps it stand out.
Agree with having a next button.

Cheers for the feedback once again. My background is predominantly editorial which i guess comes across quite strongly here. However, i love logotypes and music industry work too so wanted to showcase just a small selection of that. Do you think the work examples are big enough in size?

I'd mix up the work a bit. Got a bit bored of spreads after the 6th link.
Loose the splash page.
WOnder how big the team is at the Big Issue as Chimp used to work there.

Having some of the work at bit bigger won't hurt. Especially the Karma Obsurca CD artwork.
I'm getting a horizontal scroll bar at 1024 x 768. You might want to sort that out.

re bigger work — i'd use the lightbox plugina nd have an enlargment of each piece.
- Typehead0
I've just left the Big Issue to go freelance. Pretty small team there!
- Drno0
yep, use lightbox or an iframe to display you work,
also it seems that the save for web wasn't saved at 100%, for pictures of this size, i will increase the quality of the save for web
except that, nice work

As neue says, some good solid, occasionally fashionable work.
I'd recommend forward / back buttons too, and in preference to lightbox large preview, i'd replace the mystery-meat number navigation with tiny thumbnail previews.
My one big thing - I'd like to see some of those logotypes used in context - I'm always quite suspicious of random marques for unknown organisations.

Nice work, is it all real??, as I don't remember the Big Issue having that much style (infact it was always horribly economical) to it's art direction? (I'll buy it more if that's the case!!)
I agree on the variety, but if you've only worked for 'The Big Issue' fair enough!
- blaw0
nice work.

That's the annoying thing about people's perceptions of The Big Issue. People have this assumption that it's done on the cheap by non-credible journalists and designers. The truth is quite the opposite. During my time there, I commissioned some amazing illustration and photography (paid work) and the standard of the editorial was fantastic. Phew, glad i got that off my chest!
- uncle_helv0
No, no I use to help out and buy it, and it was horrible so it wasn't my perception, it was a truthful experience, plus the articles were gash, but i guess it's one of those things if you want it you have to buy it, I tend to buy magazines after a quick browse through them, Big Issue doesn't really allow that!

Nice editorial work.
- bulletfactory0
imo- drop the splash page - don't give the user a chance to leave before they see at least one piece.
- TheBlueOne0
Nice. I agree with dropping the splash page. I like the numbers personally. And bonus points for leading off with the Ozzy spread.

i hadn't read any of the comments above so sorry if some of these overlap.
1. really i see no need for your landing page with the enter button. using the enter button you're making the user click a second time just to get into your site, and really, not much changes from the landing page to the main page. kill the landing page. it's not needed.
2. i like the simplicity of the site, it's layout and color scheme. i think previous and next buttons (or text) would be a great addition under each piece to allow the user to quickly cycle through your work.
3. not sure how good you are with html/css but for this layout instead of having each piece of work reside on it's own page i think frames would work really nice here. may want to look into it, but really, the site works as is and that would only speed loading times up a bit. the way it is now it refreshes the whole page, and on a smaller screen if someone scrolled down to view your work and clicks on the next number it refreshes back at the top again and they have to scroll back down to see the work.
4. nice work. you have some really interesting pieces. nicely done.
