I don't get this?
sure but just as your iMac value plummets, your buying power for a new iMac, better than the old one, rises... it all balances out.
My power? is rising?

In the user guide it states not using the machine or powering the battery unless it is ventilated properly. Perhaps your friend has bad taking-care-of-a-mac habits?

You could say that. But you could also argue that it is bad design for a machine to ruin itself when the user uses it as he or she naturally would.
It is a laptop, the portability is the main feature. If you have to bring a foam pad with a built in fan around with you all the time, well, it sucks.
It's kind of weird how loyal people are to Apple sometimes, it's frightening, actually.

" Yeah, warranty and three years apple care - BUT - the computer is my business tool and to be honest I can't make any money if I don't have it, and I live 200 or more miles from the nearest apple store."
thats a truely shitty situation. What I suggest is going to your local best buy and grabbing yourself an 700 dollar backup laptop just to get you through the time you'll be without it.
I've been in the same situation before many times. Now, I have an extra PC laptop I can use when my main machine takes a shit on me. Along with your back up portable HD, you should have no downtime. It's a big investment if money is tight... but money will be tighter if you don't get it fixed and suddenly you lose all your data for whatever reason AND your only work tool.
Be smart. Have options if you're a freelancer and you depend on your tools. A client will have no pity on you -- it's what theyre paying you for.

Yeah, definitely consider what Shellie said. I may have to do that if I actually start designing seriously.

I want to see Shellie naked.

(Sep 21 07, 12:18)Your iMac is losing resale value because you can get a better computer cheaper now. swings and roundabouts, etc...

" think my last one, 12 incher was the worst, it wobbled when you actually set it on a flat surface"
I hope you guys sending these back! Sounds a bit like people are just putting up with stuff when they don't have to?

I have a super hi-res 17 inch powerbook and it is warped... so much so that the screen will go strange on me... takes a minute each day pressing down hard on the keyboard to get it to trigger back...
and mine too has a warped bit at the front above the release button...
Haven't had time to take it back yet... plus when the battery died on me after two months they wouldn't replace it unless i sat and spoke to a genius bar person about it at regent street. Trouble is they were all booked up... they said you could try tomorrow... i said i wasn't around tomorrow... then they said what about brent cross!
i said to them can't i even try a new battery to make sure it works... they said no... so i said ok i'll just buy the bloody battery... and they go 'ooh are you sure thats wise'
AAGGHHHHH.... So haven't got much hope on taking my warped machine back!

Get a PC... they are much better than a mac.... even half the price. SO much better. No really... SO much better
- Jaline0
Mac OS is so much better, but PCs are definitely cheaper.
Depends on what you need.
I primarily use a Mac, but I find it extremely frustrating when there are a few important programs that come along and are only available for the PC.

umm... parallels? It's biOSexual
Havn't seen a pc that can do that yet, and don't give no emulator, I'm talking running both OS' natively
- Jaline0
True, but it's still annoying. I didn't buy this laptop for no reason.
