The M8 is a fine piece of metal. I like more bells and whistles though - it seems the D3 is more versatile.
It's much heavier though. I'm riding my bike today and prefer to bring my point and shoot instead of the D200 simply because it's a beast. In that regard - the M8 is more mobile in that it's smaller and lighter.

on the other hand, the D3 is a beast. these type of camera's are made for all circumstances. drop them and they are most likely to survive, bear a few scratches.
i know this from experience with other nikon pro camera's.

i plan to put a jupiter12 lens on the m8. i love the simplicity of rangefinders, especially the 100% analogue ones. i hate bells and whistles.

http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom…because there is no auto-focus, you get a nice organic quality when you miss your focus by a little bit, resulting in an image more similar to film.
dslr images are just too precise and boring for my taste.

Isn't that kind of a non-issue? You can manually focus most D-SLR cameras.

you got a good point there, superbaka. i lik those shots.
the dull accuracy and flatness of digital images is one of my pet peeves as well.
i'll have a look at the M8, cheers!

you can do manual focus on any camera if you want it to be out of focus, also use a shallow depth of field, also the quality of the bokeh depends on the lens, no?

yet, i think, that with a somewhat more "simplistic" camera can make you a better photographer as it forces you to do most things by yourself, the limitations make you consider an image more carefully.
for the fast world of press photography a D3 would always be better though..

I'm just saying you can use any camera in a simpler, more elemental way if you choose to do so

D3 has larger photosites so more information reaches each pixel

hmm...
