Anyone know what i should charge for converting hand-lettering into a working typeface for a semi-large company? Type has many ligatures and must be tri-lingual so even though the art has already been generated a lot of work is still necessary.
They recently got a quote from someone else for 5 grand and think it is too much.
Thanks!

Does anyone know a resource that I can reference to prove to them that 5 is cheap?

get a quote from some one else?
that helps

OR
show them a chart of process that you will be doing to make this happen

This has come up on Typophile many times and a font like this in a standard western character set is usually at least 5k. Adding more language support makes it even more expensive.
How many CPUs?

(mind if an amateur butts in with a wee question?)
What's a CPU, in this context?

users, workstations, how many people will have the font installed on their machine? this is something the company must know when they license any font.

It is not going to be a commercially available face. It's for the artist. She is an illustrator that hand-designs packaging for two or three medium to large companies. Which also raises the question of who should ultimately pay for the its creation since, presumably, all parties would benefit from it equally.
