Hi. I was mucking around, trying to change the user name on my Mac and it seemed to allow me to rename (in the finder its the one with the house icon next to your name) but when I restarted my computer, everything that had been in that folder, pre-renaming, disappeared...even my desktop photo, prefs etc.
Is there anyway I can get my stuff back? It's like I reformatted my drive except that I didn't? I'm trying not to freak out. :/

it lets you rename your user folder, but it really shouldn't.
on your hard drive in the users folder should be the original folder you renamed, and the new empty folder it created when you rebooted. you just need to switch the name of your original folder back to what it was and reboot. all should be well.

change the name of the folder back, reboot, and you'll be fine. if you want to change your user name, you will need to open a new account in the settings, transfer settings between the two, and then remove the old one. don't recommend it IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
that is all.

thanks, I'll give it a try. Yes, the "IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING PART" is not lost on me post-losing everything. :(
