In need of a cost effective replacement for Lacie 22" CRT monitor. I have not gone to LCD since these are primarily for images.
Is there anything worthwhile besides Apple cinema displays? I have to get 6 so cost is an issue.

there are many MANY that are as, if not more worthwhile than apple cinema's. apple's displays use the same panels as many other displays out there. for instance, the dell 20" and the apple 20" use (maybe not the latest generation though) the same panel by LG/Philips, the LM201W01. do a bit of research and you'll find the right ones for the right cost. check out http://www.anandtech.com/display… for a bunch of reviews.

NEC 20WMGX2 ~$600, really nice screens, smooth grey ramp, easy to profile and very sharp with no colour shift/shimmer at usual viewing angles.
They're glossy panels so not good for a bright workspace.
I'd get this over a 20" apple. the apples shimmer a bit (maybe the anti-glare coating?).
the next step up in quality would be a NEC 2090UXi ~$1000, which Lacie rebadges and sells as their LCD line... the NEC's are a bit cheaper. This has a hardwear gamma adjustment like your old Electrons. Not sure it's worth the $400, but if you need precise calibration, this offers an extra degree.

Thanks jpea. I was thinking about the dell. I had thought it looked as good as the apple cinemas

monNom. I use eye-one calibration, so I will see if my distributor can get me some prices on those NECs
