The question is - are we the holes in space or the stuff? And which end is the big bang and which the big crunch?

(Aug 30 07, 07:11)I think we're still working on the deep structures of the universe really...ever read anything about the whole 'branes concept out of quantum theory?
- Nairn0
Oh yes, though as much as I've read on't, I would never claim to actually be able to understand it all - I kind of rely on the vague image drawn by years of moderate drug consumption, reading and mental doodling :)
Personally, I love Iain M. Banks' description of branes - 'skeins'. I used to have nigh-on orgasms when he'd write of "massive licks of energy ripping through the surface skein.." - at times like that, I genuinely wanted to be trade in mobility and my good looks for Steven Hawking's chair and brain.
The contemporary mode of reality is so fucking dull when you have a sci-fi-inclined imagination..

JJ has already figured it out...

yeah, destroying stars by ripping apart the space the sit in is pretty damned gnarly.
omg.
- kelpie0
that was to Nairn.
*does vulcan hand salute

Yeh, I think I'm comfortable in lumping JJ in with the loonies, tbh.
That said, hats off to him for trying to present and detail his own theory - I've got a lot more respect for him than I do the sheep meekly abiding by whichever deistic mythology is sold to them by idiots and psychotics.

yep... sign me up!
Previously I was only living by the ramblings of cyber-punk sf writers...

*glands Unity with Kelpie.
It's been far too long since M'Banks released a sci-fi :(
- kelpie0

speaking of science..
has anyone read about the discovery of microbes of half a million years old? still living?nope, no permafrost or anything like it.
they modify their genetics to prevent aging.
