does it usually take employers to get back to you after an interview? (I've forgotten, it's been so long)
Should you call/email after a certain amount of time to 'remind' them? (my ex-boss used to 'almost' tell people to fuck off who hassled him in this way)

if they like you, its usually that day or next day
if they need to keep search to compare, about 1 week
after 1 week,email them

depends on their priority at the time being, probably... they might have interviewed you for a position but then their current workload is minimal and may feel like they shouldn't hire you... just yet...
yes, most bosses would tell you to fuck off if you hassle them. also makes you seem impatient

Having said that I know I got one job because I did chase them up a couple of times as they were so busy/miss manadged that they never got the time to sort out hiring someone. As you can guess it wasn't the best run studio mind...

After a week, I'd call them. It ain't over till they tell you it is. Lots of things can happen when your recruiting which delays the decision process.

(Aug 15 07, 18:17)I can't see how avoiding a dickhead boss in such an early stage is a bad thing.
A nice follow up email a week after won't hurt and it shows your active approach rather than waiting for things to happen.

Usually if they love you they will tell you during/at the end of the interview or the same day. If they like you but want to compare some items, they will wait a few days.
Unless they tell you they will not be hiring until a certain date, definitely call them after a week, as suggested above.
If they're still unsure, call them a few times. You have to find a balance between annoying them (harassment), and being keen. You have to successfully convey that you are a good candidate and REALLY want the job by contacting them if they don't get back to you themselves.

I send a thank you email the day after...then a follow up call or email 1 week later. Usually by then they have made a decision, or at least have a real date in mind.
Good luck.

An email six days after the interview prompts an employer to call you and offer you a job ;)
Jaline, thanks for the voodoo, it worked.

Sleep in their lobby until they hire you.
