I have a photography job to take interior shots for a builder to show off their new show houses.
What would be the best lens to use for this as I want to get as much of the room in as possible?
My cam is a Canon 350D SLR.

Probably the Canon 10-22 or the Tokina 12-24. Depending on how much you want to spend.

Canon 10-22
I love this lens.

morilla - thats really wide, I don't know the 350D ratio for the lense...would there be distortion on the edges?
Of course you want to go as wide as possible but not losing true look of the room?
just wondering....
- morilla0
if you are at 10mm, there will be some disortion. But I doubt you would be at 10mm to shoot what you are talking about.

the tokina has pretty geometrical distortion, so it is easy to fix in ps. your best bet would be to rent a tilt-shift lens.

Anything lower than 50mm and you will lose the "true look" of the room.
I dont know but what is the crop factor of the 350D?
If there is a crop factor then the 10-22 might be exactly what you need because at 22mm its almost at 50mm.

isn't the crop factor 1.6? making 22mm actually 35.2mm
and yes the 10-22 is nothing but fun
- smielke0
Yeah it would be closer to 35mm which I think would be "ok" for what he wants. Definitely not 10mm though which would be huge distortion no matter what you do.
- Mimio0
The 10-22 is like a 16-35 on a full frame camera.
- Mimio0
The distortion isn't too bad actually.

10-22mm whatever brand depending on your budget. I shoot a lot of interiors. Get a good tripod since long exposures are needed sometimes or you may need to do bracketing and merging two or more exposures in PS.

Any other wide angled lenses that would be the next one down from the 10-22mm?
The 10-22mm lens is about £450! I was looking at around £250-300

I would definitely recommend a Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8LUSM II
Possibly one of the best lenses around. Don't by anything from Sigma. I never managed to get anything in focus with my Sigma 18-50 mm f/2.8 DC EX...

stay away from zooms! prime lens the way to go!

i have a 350d and a sigma EX DG 15mm. got for £250 new off ebay.
really good, sharp.. will make a room look much bigger and dont get much distortion if you shot from standing - ie not kneeling.

Yolo ( Martin F. ) ... the Sigma lens I have is sharp, no doubt. But each time I press the shutter, the focus change slightly. Doesn't happen with a Canon USM lens. If the camera is fixed ( on a tripod ), the focus should ALWAYS be the same. That means that my Sigma lens can't focus properly, probably why it's cheap ...

not noticed anything like that with sigma ex lens, as i have a couple.
i was going from the lens that comes with the 350d, so anythings better than that 'toy'.
get what you pay for i guess..

You could always rent a lens . . .
Much cheaper.
I'd also recommend the 10-22
it's probably my favorite lens.
