Yeah, $16.75 in, $14.00 (+$3.00 BFB toll) out. Madness.

Any other good areas to consider? Bear in mind I still don't have my license (damn BMV regulations).
And what was with all the people there wearing their t-shirts backwards? Are Kriss Kross back together?

one thing i noticed the first time i was there, and yeah straight out a white canadian boy's mouth...tonnnes of black people. i had no idea, which is why i was so surprised. first time i ever felt WHITE, and I had a half black guy with me. try taking the train through camden. no biggie really but it's probably the worst ghetto in the usa.

I live in an area called mount airy, maybe a couple of miles up the hill from manayunk, next to chestnut hill--it's a beautiful area, greener than manayunk, convenient to downtown (10 miles) most people take the train to work

There's only 2 real problems with SEPTA - they also don't run fairly late, and only have the 3 center-city stops. If you need to get somewhere else in the city, you're stuck dealing with multiple forms of transportation, or driving.
And driving isn't always bad - I drove to Northern Liberties for work for a year - and the driving part wasn't too bad, though I95 would get backed up if anything went the slightest bit wrong. Also, PennDOT likes to start road construction at 9AM, which hurts.
If you want to go out of the area, there's stuff out in the surburbs that's decent. SEPTA runs way the hell out there. I used to live in Fairless Hills, PA (google map it) - about 5 miles from a train station, or about 40 minute drive from Center City. Gets kinda redneck-ish, but it's mostly ok. Good H-mart nearby.

Manayunk is over priced and yuppified now. It's a pain to get from the center city up there.
If you want reasonable, and in the city check out Graduate Hospital, South Philly and Northern Liberties / Fishtown.
I didn't read every post, I piece mealed what's going on in this thread. But I decided when I finally want suburbs or that suburban lifestyle, I'm not going to do it within the 215.

silk city has been closed for some time now...really sucks...they had the best pancakes
i just moved to nyc after 7 years in philly but have to say i still love it there...it's kind of like a fischer price "my first city"...the gallery scene has really taken off and tons of great places to eat and hang out....besides all the dirt, murders, and lack of public transportation & sports championships i still dig it

Gonna be working for these peeps in Conshohocken:
They want me to start work on the 3rd September :O
Went to see Gyro too but haven't heard from them, don't think they're going to call anyway.
Looks like I'll be looking for a place to live sooner than expected.

Conshosmokin, representin'.

Wooo! What's Conshohocken like? Only saw a little bit and apartments seem expensive compared to some other places. Hopefully there's not much meat swinging going on; I nearly threw up in my beer, thanks for the warning ;)

Conshy's cool, if ur under 30. I just moved out last Sept, about 20 mins away now. I used to live over at the Riverwalk in Conshy. Don't live there, total rip off. Instead, live over at the Wynnewood Park Apartments. I've lived in many places and I must say, they are the nicest people there and for what u get and pay, its the best deal. If u wanna place near 20Nine, go check out the North Lane Apt's right up the street. If you want a really nice place, live in Manayunk but expect to pay some loot.
It's def the most accessible place in philly.
You have 76, 202, 276, 476, 95, King of Prussia mall.....Ikea...yeah Ikea...muhahahaa...all right down the street from you. It's like a college town, a lot of corporate offices too, def lots of drinkin goin on, lots of sausage, lots of ladies as well. It seems like a college town, even tho its not, so u know what to expect. You'll be forced to go to the pub twice a month where you'll get shitfaced and throw up on yourself, again. You may run into jr_fartbox. You may run into me. We may throw up on you.

I have a 150 yo row house in GHo with my studio on the first floor. It's like living with an invalid, there's always something wrong. The art scene is still underground. My favorite is Honey's Sit N Eat @ 4th & Brown.

what's GHo again?
