---------well, like i said .... DONT live on a flood plain!!! simple!
and Nairn
yeah i know a lot of edinburgh is low, especially stock-o-bridge. one of the guys here did a project on it at uni or something and was on about how stock-o and surrounding area would be flooded even if the sea rose a few metres. so yeah thats a reason why i wouldnt live down there by the river or in one of those spangly waterfront monstrosities in leith.

You're talking out of your arse - what has Scotland ever done for housebuilding/archit ecture?
(nairn)erm ... built houses that stand up to strong winds?
- Nairn0
You mean the wee buried ones covered in turf that only about 50 people still live in?
- emecks0
that is a valid point.
it is said that the houses in scotland would have withstood thon hurricane thingy a few years ago in england.
- emecks0
no no in general Nairn, don't quote me on the technical terms but our walls are thicker or summat, to do with building regs / planning permission and such like.

---------thank you emecks :)
at new year in the uk we had crazy winds. down south it was a catastrophy with walls been blown over and roofs flying off - this was being plastered all over the news .... meanwhile you look out your window in scotland to see the same wind but just put it down as a "windy day" and see punters goin about the same ol same ol out there.

My Gran's 50s house is about as flimsy looking as I've seen of similar buildings in London or Newcastle.
I dunno, you might be right - but I just feel you're tarring all the Sassenach swine with the same unwieldy brush. I suspect it's got as much to do with population density than anything else.
Don't forget - the pride of our land is our "British Standards".
Probably crafted by Scottish engineers likes, but hey.

Don't be offended...I'm just curious and honestly don't know the answer.
