God help me. How do I turn this "feature" off?
I've so very nearly got my screenless iBook acting as juke box in my living room, but this scan just crashes after the first 8000 tracks.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?

sounds like a problem bigger than itunes. mine scans 150gb library every time with no problem.

Click on your library, select all the songs, File > Get Info (Command - i) and under Gapless Album, drop down to No.
I never noticed any difference in the way songs played with that feature anyway.
I don't know if that will solve your problem, but it will deactivate the gapless feature.

can turn off in tracks but itunes is always gonna scan for it. i'd guess most likely a damaged file or something at this problematic 8000 mark.
Gapless Playback in iTunes
Gapless playback is always on in iTunes 7 or later unless the Crossfade feature is turned on. If Crossfade is on, only audio files that have the "Part of a gapless album" option checked and are capable of being played gaplessly will play with no gaps.
