By the way, does anyone know any design agency in hawaii? IS there anyone from hawaii at all? My friend is looking at his options to move there possibly for a design/architecture work.
Thanks a lot!

A couple of the larger known agencies have offices in Honolulu. Not the place I'd choose to live if I moved back.
This may help you out a bit.

most things designed that one sees in Hawaii were done in California or Australia. Not much of a design market out there from what I hear.

you could make a killing designing those day trip event brochures

Start a company there and hire me.

Hawaii is just like any other smaller market design scene. It is there but not shining as bright as new york or SF. The architecture scene here is basically all residential. Not much commercial building is going on here.
Most people move to Hawaii as a way to enjoy their lives, not as a way to get ahead in their career. It is expensive here and things work on the buddy network. Its a lifestyle choice to move here imho.
If you have any questions drop me a line and I will do what I can to help. In the mean time here is a list of links to a few places here.
Best of luck
