I am looking for a really simple SLR, probably use a wide angle(25/49) lens only, and I would like automatic and manual features. I am definitely a fan of older Canon and Pentax, but I just want the best option... any thoughts?

jessops.comI'm thinking of getting this one!

I should have clarified, but I am looking for film camera only, and I own a Canon Rebel, but it's a little too slick feeling. I guess it might be a bit pretentious to prefer an older potentially shittier camera, but I like the feel. Sheeeit.

only an ignorant will call it a pretentious choice.

Ive got this bad boy. It hasn't seen the light of day since my college years but its built like a tank and never let me down.

Looks very well built, overall I have more faith in Canon than Pentax but I just know a lot of people with the old Pentax's (pentaxi?).

Why not get a Nikon? You can get a great camera for reasonable prices...can't beat the lens.

I also own two Canon AE-1 and an F1 Nikon, they've never let me down. You can get either of them at a garage sale or ebay for like 100 USD with lenses.

I have an Canon A-1 and AE-1 program if you are interested, I haven't used them much since I got my 20D.
They are awesome cameras, The A-1
does everything a modern camera does, but it is manual focus.Lenses are pretty cheap and available too

The Canon AE-1 is solid. Picked one up second hand from a yard sale for 10 bucks about 8 years ago. Def recommend it.

i got myself nikon d40 recently - it's an excellent entry-level SLR, very simple to use, reasonably priced and taking pictures of quality matching the top-end cameras. If you do a little online research you should get good price - I saved £250 of the high street price!

If you have the cash get a Contax G1, or G2. It's a rangefinder camera but does have manual features, and the lenese cannot be beat. But still very expensive (the leneses specifically) these days.

I have:
k1000
ae-1(auto)
n90sd1x
got the k1000 back in 6th grade and still going strong. Haven't shot with the n90s since I got the d1x. Have a nice macro for the ae-1. Can't stand the idea for paying for film and processsing (and scanning time).
but still don't have that f__cking lens

Got kit from ebay for $350.
Stick a Fujifilm Velvia in there and your set!
