any suggestions for reuse or reduce? rather than recycle.
just flattened and recycled 10+ years worth of empty computer and electronics boxes in my basement.. been saving them for the apocalypse or something.
anyways, i'm left with a mountain of those white styrofoam packaging blocks. HUGE pile. my community recycle depot won't take them cause apparently they still end up in landfills, regradless of the recycle stamp on them. how sad is that.
seem like such as reusable material. other than making a lifesize transformer model, anyone found any interesting ways to use this stuff?

if i was only 10 again.. would make a wicked planet Hoth Jedi headquarters.
but now i'm the parent and cringe at the idea of broken foam and static white crumbs allover our living space. booo i'm so lame.

My gf teaches elementary school level art, she uses styrofoam for printmaking (glue bits of it on a rigid surface, ink, print, repeat) or connects them with toothpicks to make sculptures that the kids can paint and then have take up space in their houses till moms throws it out.
Or you could always get a hairdryer and melt the whole thing down into one giant glob of evil.

acetone it to nothingness or superglue will work too
both dissolve it like its nothing (as it's mostly air)

make an igloo.

chuck it into the loft as insultation.

seriously, I wonder why they don't recycle it as building insulation? Shred the stuff up and blow it into the walls, like the cellulose stuff.
maybe it doesn't perform well enough?

dump it into the river!

I like to dump all my old paint, and oil down in the sewer. Who wants to deal with the hassle of proper disposal?

mix with petrol and make some demi-napalm molotov cocktails.

styrofoam sandwiches !

what nairn said -- napalm.
Don't forget to throw in a couple of bars of ivory soap to make the consistency a little more doughy and stickier. Make sure you mix it all up in a metal bucket.

The petrol Idea is pretty good, you should just about fit the whole lot in one glass jar no joke.
Then let it dry out and mould into a highly flammable fruit bowl?

koolhaas and oma do most of their preliminary concept design using wirecut styrofoam
just make sure it's the nontoxic kind or else you'll drop dead from cyanide gas fumes =)
