can someone give me some advice about MacPro RAM pls? I want to upgrade but there's a few options + apple's RAM is twice the price of many others. any help / info appreciated.

buy it through a apple reseller and get them to put the extra ram in. They should use the usual pc ram. We did this here and we got the ram upped to 4gig for AUD$260

already have the machine here - bought it through the apple store. i'm going to upgrade myself - currently have 2GB and I want to add another 2GB. any advice?

If you have 2 x 1 gigi sticks you will need to sell/bin the ram you have now and put in 2 x 2gig sticks. I got told not to mix sizes so use same ram/size in both slots.

it's got room for eight slots. i looked into it and i can add 4 more dimms, they just have to be paired and mirror-added on different risers from the already installed.
thanks for the other leads.
apparently the crucial ram had no heat syncs? maybe that's old news?

just put this in my mbp. works great, is a respected name and was only $138 bucks with shipping...

OWC's ram is great. I've never used anyone else... been using Macs exclusively since 98. This is the only place I've ever bought my ram. Great prices and reliable as hell. Oh.. and lifetime warranty of course.

i second owc. i got my mac pro from apple with 4x512 sticks like you. i then ordered 4x1GB from owc and they've been fine. they're about half price now from when i purchased mine. crucial are quality, too. i'd say just go with whichever is cheaper.

sorry I mis read thought you said macbook pro...
Why didn't they just call it a G6?

it's not called a g6 as it's not a g6. it's an intel chip (which isn't made by motorola like the g series) and it's a completely different technology. well, kinda completely different.
