OK, here's a technical question for you, and probably one to which I'll get no answer except "you're fucked!"
Long story short, I used hacks to install Airport updates on my Core Duo Macbook Pro that were intended only for use with Core 2 Duo machines with the new 802.11n Airport Card. My firmware has now changed to what the new card firmware should be, except mine is the old 'g' card. My range has since halved and I keep getting disconnected.
Anyone know if you can reset the firmware to it's original setting?
Any help or piss-taking appreciated.

uninstall the firmware
simple

Know how to do it? I've searched and searched and come up blank.

Reinstalling OSX won't work because it's the actual firmware of the card that's changed, not just the system software.
I don't have an Airport Base Station either (I use a Netgear) so I can't install most of the Airport Firmware.
Plus I doubt physically removing the card and reinstalling will do any good.

have you tried just deleting the airport utility?
have a older one saved somewhere so u can use it

Tried it. I hath scoured the fourteen corners of the interwebs on my quest for the golden firmware downgrader.

Looks like I'll be installing the Mac Pro 'n' Card. Another $96 up the spout.

Yep, that's me. Still no replies.

the N card doesnt speed anything up
you need to have N basestation
if you are doing what i did, updated airport utility with older machine, with N supported base station, all i did was deleted the new airport utility
and that was it
i know it is supposed to trigger airport card's N ability but for me it hasnt done anything
as far as i could tell, i doesnt work
btw, is your apple care still valid? your card will be covered

Well I reinstalled the system software and it fixed it, there must be a file somewhere that determines the card firmware.
I have an N base station (Netgear) but you need the new N card installed and enabled with the enabler utility. You can't update the old cards, as I've found out the hard way.

OK, with the 10.4.10 update it's reverted to the newer firmware with the shite reception. What the fuck Apple?
