illustrator settings

This drives me crazy: why illustrator cannot keep tools settings after closing/restart like Photoshop does? For instance I use Spherify and Twirl tools and the others in that pallette a lot (I don't have the english version, I hope the names are correct). And I mainly use them with these settings:
Details->10, Simplify->UncheckedAfter every restart, default settings are restored and I have to change them again and again for every single tool to fit my needs. Does anyone know about any solution to bypass this idiotic behaviour? Thanks..

i found a while ago (with indesign) that some settings when altered witha document open only change the settings for that document. if you wan the prefs changes globally, try doing it with no document open.

arrange your palettes then go:
window > workspace > save workspace

you can adjust the default settings for each tool.
its simple. Find Adobe Illustrator Application Folder on your hard drive.
Open the "Presets" folder and for each tool, there will be 2 specific documents. "DEFAULT RGB, DEFAULT CMYK"
open each default document for each respective tools for both RGB and CMYK and adjust the presets of the tools and Save As.
[remove the original Default RGB/ CMYK and put in the new ones. in case you want to rre-format back to its original settings]
Quit out of Illustrator and then open it again and all your saved presets of all the tools will be exactly as you want it to be.
its very easy.

Thanks e-pill, that was the first thing I did. But those startup files apparently have no influence on the tools settings. Everything is always default. I mean - at least it does not work for me, does it work for you??
Maybe I should reinstall (although I did it few weeks ago).Btw. I forgot to mention - the same problem occurs when using Lasso tool palette..
