Anyone have resources for nice furniture and display pieces made with wood?

Only a pickle smoocher would start a thread like this.

Oops, wrong thread. But on second thought, the thread title made it not completely out of context..

yeah, they have some really amazing stuff and if you've ever seen a piece up-close you understand why they charge so much. all pieces custom made, no hardware and all beautiful joinery

my brother used to work as an apprentice for a master carpenter, sadly the dude wasn't into the business side of it all and had to close his doors. I really wish my brother was with him still. :(

i've been looking into carpentry apprenticeship opportunities myself, mirrorball.
i was gonna study industrial design 3 years ago; it fell through and i continued freelancing in interface design (like i have been for the last 7 odd years).
it will be a big change, but i'm 26... time to make a move i think.

Cool foreign, go for it. I wish my bro continued his apprenticeship at another master carpenters, They are very rare over in Northern Ireland though. All the best with it, he's 27 now and working on a building site unfortunately. Making the mullah sure he is, but I always think he would be happier doing something that is sadly becoming a dying industry, with your Ikea etc...

These guys are amazing. I took a 7 week table-making class with them and when I was done, I had a beautiful maple shaker table, completely from scratch (raw lumber). They use old school techniques for shaping the wood. It was so cool to take part and learn from them.
