Does anyone use any third parties to obtain a fixed IP? My ISP does not offer it as a service, so I need to try and get one else where.

what do you need it for exactly?

You would still need a way to identify your computer in the end, so you either need a fixed IP at your ISP, or...
Use a dynamic DNS service that keeps track of your home IP address and redirects to it.
These guys seem to be the best:

this is the bit you want:

...and once you have setup an account, you run a client on your computer to let the service know what the current IP address is:

This looks good, thanks.
I need to get access through a firewall to develop a site so I need a fixed IP

erm... this wont give you a fixed IP..its giving you a way to access say your hom ecomputer remotely (for file sharing, running a web site etc...but it isnt giving you a fixed IP for use in connecting to other sites.
You need to be clearer about what you are trying to do here.. Is it inward connections, outward connections, or both?
If a remote site is requiring specific (pre-listed) IP numbers, I don't think DYNDNS will do it, but there might be another way... (or can the remote site work with domain names rather than IP numbers?)

It's an outward connection.
I need a fixed IP that I can give to a company (my client) so they can allow me through their firewall. I need to develop a site on their server.

cant they offer user/password?
or use a remote desktop solution?
proxy server?
- ribit0
or even if they cant do something, you could relay through an office that does have a fixed IP? (firends/colleagues?)
Dont ask me how to actually do this stuff tho..I'm making it up as I go along...
(I'm using Apple Remote Desktop, Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection to administer computers at the office, that sort of thing)

I don't really know. We have not got that far yet. A fixed IP was their first requirement. If I can't do that they will have to look at other options.
ribit, what in your opinion is the best solution? I don't really know too much about networking!

thanks ribit, i'm going to look at remote desktop

really depends on their setup, so hard to say... but with this stuff it seems anything is possible if you can find a real expert...
