and just for the record dobber- was that tryng to start shit, or just a poorly barbed question?
i only ask because i am someone who uses a 'smartphone' hours a day to pretty much it's full extent and conducts and reviews business on it. a device like this one, or any other make for that matter, will actually improve my productivity and allow me to do more business than not. hell, i sold and bought 2 homes with mine last year, effectively.
i know you were not pointing me out, nor am i what is important here, but as the fact that this device is pretty revolutionary in this industries developments, i was just wondering if the device is of concern in that statement, or the fact it is apple that is putting it out that you are probing at?
hell, my current 'smartphone' runs MS right now....

how much did everyone pay for the razr when it first came out?... which had even less functionality and features?
oh yeah... $600, with a $100 dollar rebate from cingular.
- mrdobolina0
what exactly does this phone do that other smart phones do not that would improve you productivity?
Maybe I missed the killer app that it is sporting...
- k0na_an0k0
oh sorry... i mistyped.
the razr was $600, but you paid $500 with the $100 "instant" rebate from Cingular.

- i would be able to view all my imap email and snyc w/ all inboxes using my current mail app's preference, specifically spam settings. also including encrypted cert's
- edit PDFs with it, and re-save them locally
- use same UI as calendar i currently use. additionally have full invite-capability that is noted on my webdav server
- seamless integration between mail and a web browser that supports SSL pages
- a web browser that suports flash
- a media player that is not WMP
i am seriously not trying to pick a wound here, but i also just realized something else; aside from the glam shit and hoopla- this is a pretty nice addition for mobile professionals that are either sole proprietors or small business owners, IMO that use Apple computer products primarily.
- madirish0
i also hope this works better than the Razr's have proven to...
for the record- i am not getting one of these. i will probably wait for a couple months feedback, and see if service agreements change.

eh, I dont use my phone to do any of those things. I make phone calls and do occasional text messages from my phone. I dont even have a camera on mine.
I would never, ever ever edit a pdf from my phone. Just wouldn't do it. Also, I would never actually pay for a phone either, I would get the free phone from the provider.
This is just me, but I can see possibly 10% of the actual users of this phone using any of the features you just mentioned.

it could just be me, but i've noticed a marked increase in dropped calls and crappy reception since at&t took over cingular

and seriously, can't those email things you talked about all be done with smart phones and outlook?
I'm just thinking that the iPhone secret sauce is ketchup and fucking mayonnaise. ;)

This might dumb question:
Woud I be able to send images back and forth between the iphone and my laptop via bluetooth that I could then email out through the phone?
I ask because I am often in rural areas with no interweb for my laptop.

(Jun 22 07, 11:40)yes they can.... for those people who use outlook. i don't.
:)
good info dobs- thanks for the insights, as always.
- MrD0
arhur you should be able
but in some cases, depending on your cell provider, you can tether your phone to your laptop and use it a modem
using USB connection

isn't the big diff the visual interface/size of screen?
- mrdobolina0
I think so.
