I agree that many people get too frustrated with torrents. But there are also a lot of people who figure out how to use them eventually. There is strategy involved.
But teaching a computer illiterate person about anything, especially torrents, can be incredibly frustrating.

game over man. game over!!!

i think you're being a bit naive in generalising your own experience over that of everyone else - BT seems to be getting stronger, from my experience. It's also being increasingly used by commercial and academic organisations for legitimate file distribution purposes.

Narin, anytime something is in your life it seems easier. Riding a bike gets easier over time. I feel that there may be a place for it but as of now no one has properly figured out how to use it in a commercially viable way.
regardless of what the future holds as of right now its very much a drama class type situation. no one cares about it but the drama geeks.
- rusty_shackle0
also, educational places won't use it for a long time. i work in education and adaptation to new technology campus wide takes a very long time.

'My experience' meaning how I perceive its use amongst the non-drama geek fraternity, in addition to how I've used it.
My dad and my hairdresser appear to know what it is, for crissakes.

'sfunny, i was under the impression that academic institutions had more than a minor role in the internet's somewhat impressive rise over recent years.

i come from a very low working class family so my perception of things are quite different in those kinds of terms.
i was the first one in my family to go to college, etc. therefore i look at from the eyes of the people who work for a living.
and the fact that you have a hairdresser just boggles my mind.
hehe

Ah, well then. Perhaps we should both learn not to generalise, then?

and how does that apply to whether or not BitTorrent is dead?
- rusty_shackle0
those are universities with schools that devote time and money into those sorts of things. not the entire campus. its a common mistake to read the educational system like that.
its like saying everyone at VA Tech is a crazy student who likes to kill people.

(Jun 20 07, 09:31)I did and your reasoning for bittorrent dying is still shit.
- play0
I would call myself reasonably computer savy - I work on one eight hours every day for fucks sake. But I still don't understand how bittorrents are different from say soulseek or limewire. it's kindof a hassle and never seems to work right. plus no one can explain the shit to me in a way that seems simple.
