Anyway, I came back Monday night. We had a great time. Never got to Mar Bella beach though, Bogatell was a long enough walk. Stayed in 4 different self-catering places in town, can recommend some, all nice and reasonably priced. One apt owner was an Australian web designer who was eager to share his expat freelance advice. Then our last 5-days landlady, a French Canadian interior designer invited us to a big party at her place - it was a blast!
They both had lived in BCN for good and both said local market was just about useless.
The web designer said most of his work came from the UK where he'd lived for years. The Canadian girl said she was going back to NY soon for some time to do some real work for clients.Meanwhile, locals wave soviet flags on the streets and fight for "affordable housing" (read: tax increase and inevitable higher housing prices due to unfair competition by the state).
I loved the tapas.

I´ve been here for 10 days already, it´s been a great time.
It is more and more of a tourist resort though, local artsy papers lament over the city´s agony..

And for those who think Barcelona is so last century, let me remind you to join (if not next saturday, maybe some other year) a massive meeting when catalans celebrate the Sant Jordi Day.
Everybody gets down to the beach all night long, set fire like finnish, drink like irish, swim like aussies, and get together unlike anyone will do the rest of the year.
Then everybody gets to rest all Sunday to recover from the hangover.
But the memories remain, I'm afraid.

Woody doesn't pay too well. Sorry.

I guess nothing has changed.
While wages are still low with ridiculous working conditions while temperature keeps on the rise as well as flat prices.
The Sonar Festival brought a huge crowd of asian tourists who insisted on mixing sandals and socks while the selection in the menu didn't top the expectations.
Other than that, I'm just waiting for the weekend after spending 10 hours a day in front of a beautiful Apple-branded set of heavy machinery that my bosses keep comparing me with to make me feel slow.
And while Woody Allen is preparing to film his next film in town, I pray to get a part so I can retire in 5 years to live the good life.
