What are you preferred solutions for adding e-commerce to an existing site? I'm looking for something to allow me to create my own html page for products and not have to much of a disconnect in design from the site to the cart.

with paypal you can create your own basket on your own site and tie that to your CMS so itl only display/allow the sale of items left in stock. then its only at the last stage - payment - where the user gets taken to paypal screen (which you can customise with your shops banner).
nice easy solution

Os-commerce is pretty nice for php sites. It has good template flexibility and it marries-up to most payment gateways.

23kon, are you referring to Website Payments Standard or another package?

Don't your customers have to be registered with Google to purchase with Google Checkout?

they do have to login w/their google credentials, or create an account very quickly

Paypal is extremely simple.
You can try http://ccnow.com/ as well.

madirish, let me know what you decide to go with. I am leaning towards PayPal as of now. It seems to be geared more towards incorporating into an existing site if needed.
Here is another solution. It's free although it works only with Buy Now buttons on your site which takes you to the cart.
I would prefer to be able to fill in a page of quantity boxes and add all to cart when ready.

Has anyone here used PayPal Website Payments Pro or Standard for this type of thing?

will do seed.
i am not leaning toward PayPal actually because i really do not like forcing the user to assume yet *another* online ID/service agreement just to purchase something. i know it is widely popular and common to have a PayPal account, but I would never assume that is aceptable, especially when they already have invested in their credit card which is providing them with a security blanket.
to be honest, this mals-e.com is one of the best i have seen. i wish it was around when i wrote my discovery doc last week. :( it looks nice.

I think the PayPal option I mentioned doesn't require an account. The demo shows the screen. There is a regular credit card box and a Paypal Transfer box in checkout. They can pick either way.
I just wonder if theres a way to tweak Mals-e to allow you to add multiple quantities on a page and hit the checkout button once instead of 'Buy Now > Continue Shopping'.
I actually do UI design for an e-commerce company but it is a fully hosted solution.

oh, i see what you are saying now re: paypal, seed. that would be better. still, it requires the seller to have one and they take a cut of the sale. hmmm, not bad, but i still think if the fee can be made by the ccard company and that is noted in their statements, it is 'cleaner' than if paypal is on top of that. no?
i ask cause you are deep in this stuff all day.
i too wonder that about Mals-e. if you could do that, plus display it really the same as the store, it might not be a bad solution, cause they do offer the 'continue shopping' feature.

I'm not really sure how Paypal shows up on statements. If I find any more info on using Paypal with an existing HTML site I'll post it. I may call them since I haven't found clear info on that on their site.
