Hey I just re-did my personal logo, which is really just my name written in a stylish way, and there is no place for the descriptor: designer.
Do you guys make that part of your logo, or just put it somewhere on your card?
Just wondering, would appreciate any input.

don't include the 'designer' in the logo unless your name is uber

Just add it under your name on the card...

Don't have a logo!

yeah I kinda figured it would take away from the logo if I put a descriptor in there...
here is what i ended up doing

Thanx all!

I though about "not having a logo"
but I felt like that would be a cop out. I dunno, I would like my correspondence to have some personality. Also, this is the hardest thing for me to design, and if I run now I'll be running forever...
(cue dramatic music)

Sorry mate, I just don't think that works at all, it looks strange no style or craft to it...again sorry just my thoughts.
Speaking as a designer I don't think designers need or should have a logo (fair enough if you are a studio, company) but as creatives in a heavily saturated industry, we tend to respond and be influenced by the zeitgeist, whether it be a particular typeface, or illustrative style, but I would guarantee, six months to a year down the line you will be wanting to change it or do something different, as it doesn't reflect how you may have developed etc! so I'm not being subversive I'm just saying don't commit to fashion, keep it simple! or create something timeless!

you're fired.

Hey uncle_helv, no worries...
I agree with you completely, I ran into the very situation you describe with my first logo.
This ASCII logo is purposefully devoid of style or craft. Nobody is really "into" ASCII art today either. I don't want to do a totally typographic card,( maybe in Helvetica?) cause then it'll look like any businessmans card. (hehe, American Psycho)
Don't agree?

i dunno dude
my logo IS my name.. just written
iebut i woudnt stick my job description on the logo itself.
it would go on your bcard to explain what u do (within a company, or as a profession) but the logo should just be a logo

dude, that ascii logo really IS bad, its maybe cos its so big, to anyone that didnt know what it actually was it would look like a poor attempt at 3D text from someone who totally WASNT a designer.
maybe if it was put into context, maybe get an image of some old skool monitor and photoshop your logo on to it?
just a thought.i had a look at your site and youve got some great work on there and some great illustrations. id suggest you did something more in keeping with the work you have on there.
i love that cover for "look at me".thats my tuppenceworth.
good luck.
